Dust Bowl and Soil Erosion

The Dust Bowl in the United States during the 1930s had continued into the 1940s,

farmers discussed the causes of soil erosion, the impact on agricultural productivity,

and efforts to implement soil conservation.  The drought of the 1950s was among the
most widespread, severe and sustained ever experienced in the United States,

exceeding that of the 1930s “Dust Bowl” in several states.  Specifically, the 1950s were

characterized both by low rainfall amounts and by excessively high temperatures. In

spite of its severity, this drought did not receive a great deal of news coverage. In fact,
